Toyota’s all-new Yaris Cross will be priced from $26,9901 when it goes on sale on Monday (2 November), delivering the perfect blend of city style and SUV functionality to appeal to youthful, active, urban dwellers.
As Toyota’s first entry into the light SUV market, the new Yaris Cross offers both petrol and first-in-class hybrid powertrains, 2WD and electric AWD capability, and exceptional safety features in a premium compact package.
Toyota Australia Vice President Sales and Marketing Sean Hanley said the new Yaris Cross was competitively priced to appeal to the growing demand for small SUVs.
“It’s no secret that the SUV market continues to grow, and Toyota has answered that customer demand with its first entry into the light SUV market with the all-new Yaris Cross,” Mr Hanley said.
“Toyota was a pioneer in the small SUV market when we first launched the RAV4 in 1994, and the new Yaris Cross offers customers the ideal combination of style and functionality in a compact city-friendly package at an affordable price.
“With its high levels of safety, comfort and convenience equipment, and the only hybrid powertrain available in the segment, the Yaris Cross is the perfect partner for the working week, with the versatility and practicality to get out of town for an active weekend,” he said.
The Yaris Cross is available in nine variants with a choice of 2WD petrol, or 2WD and electric AWD hybrid versions, in three grades – entry-level GX, mid-range GXL and top-of-the-range Urban.
The 2WD petrol variants are powered by a new 1.5-litre 88kW/145Nm three-cylinder engine that drives the front wheels through a Direct Shift CVT with a mechanical first gear and 10-speed manual sequential function.
Two-wheel drive hybrid versions of the Yaris Cross also use a new 1.5-litre three-cylinder Atkinson cycle petrol engine combined with two electric motor generators, that generates a combined maximum output of 85kW, with a low combined cycle fuel consumption of 3.8l/100km2.
The electric AWD models gain a third, rear electric motor that works seamlessly to provide extra traction when needed with drive torque split between 100 per cent to the front wheels and up to 40 per cent to the front and 60 per cent to the rear.
All models are very well equipped with a comprehensive suite of Toyota Safety Sense3 features including the latest generation Pre-Collision System (PCS) with daytime intersection assistance, and emergency steering assist (ESA).
The Yaris Cross also features the introduction of Toyota Connected Services4, that offers, among other functions, Automatic Collision Notification5 that automatically relays the location of the vehicle to a 24/7 Toyota emergency call centre in the event of an incident that vehicle sensors, including airbag sensors deem appropriate.
Other standard features across the entire range include climate control, smart entry and start, adaptive cruise control, rear view camera and the latest generation multimedia system with Apple CarPlay®6 and Android Auto™7.
GXL and Urban grades gain satellite navigation, LED headlights and further safety features including Blind Spot Monitor and a panoramic view rear view camera while the top-of-the-range Urban models also get larger 18-inch alloys (16-inch for GX/GXL), power driver and heated front seats, and a power tailgate with kick sensor.
Beyond the extensive equipment list and premium interior trim and materials, the Yaris Cross is also fully covered by the Toyota Warranty Advantage program offering substantial added value.
Low ownership costs are assured with a five-year warranty8, seven years for engine and driveline9, and up to 10-year warranty on the hybrid battery10 and capped price servicing for the first five services at $205 each11.
